4/13/05 FMDG Meeting Minutes

The meeting began at 1:30 in the AISB.

1)      A handout summarizing an April 5 FMDG planning meeting was distributed.

2)      The schedule for upcoming meetings was reviewed. All meetings will be in AISB. They are as follows:

·        May 11th @ 1:30pm : APPA Professional association presentation and discussion. Guest Speaker: Steve Glazner

·        June 8th @ 1:30pm : Possible open forum with Bill Elvey for 30 minutes and then Crime Prevention/Security presentation with the Virginia Tech Police Department.

·         July 13th @ 1:30pm : Field trip to visit a campus facility. A trip to the Bear Center/Aquaculture facility was discussed. More details will be available when it is confirmed.

·        August 10th @ 10am til Noon : VT Purchasing Training led by Debbie Reed and Tom Kaloupek.

1)      APPA (Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers, formerly Association of Physical Plant Administrators) membership was discussed. Bill Elvey has offered to facilitate (and pay) for the memberships of those FMDG members who are state employees and are focused on Facilities Management as a profession. If you would like to be considered, please e-mail Dawn by May 1st. This is the organization through which some of our upcoming training and certification opportunities will be coordinated.

2)      An FMDG brochure is being created to promote and advertise the group. If you have any suggestions or experience in this area, let Lylah or Dawn know.

3)      An open invitation for members of FMDG to speak on their areas of expertise was issued. If you have something from your work/experience that you believe would be helpful to the group, let Dawn/Lylah know.

4)      Questions were raised from the floor concerning the responses from Physical Plant to 1-4300 calls and other issues. As a result, it was suggested a mini-forum be held with Bill Elvey on June 8th. Topics/concerns for this discussion should be submitted in advance to Dawn, who will send out a short form for this via the listserv.

The meeting adjourned at 2:30pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Dave Shuster
