5/12/05 FMDG Meeting Minutes

 

The meeting began at 1:30 in the AISB.

 

1)      Mr. Bill Elvey, Assistant Vice President for Facilities, Mr. John Beach, Director of Phyiscal Plant Operations, and Ms. Pam Raines, Budget Analyst, were invited to address the group regarding Facilities Operations at Virginia Tech.  Mr. Elvey began by providing an overview of the Facilities Department organization and mission, including responsibilities of each department. A handout was provided summarizing this information.

2)      Mr. Elvey then addressed the concerns and comments raised through the FMDG member survey that was distributed prior to this meeting. Again, a handout summarizing his comments to each area of concern was provided.

3)      Mr. Elvey and Ms. Raines detailed the transition to a new work-order management front-end to Banner, known as DEPART. This system is still being integrated, but offers many new and future options for improving efficiency in submitting, tracking, and billing for work orders. A web-based facilities work order management system is available at https://www.facilities.stl.vt.edu.

4)      Mr. Steve Glazner, Director of Knowledge Management for the APPA spoke to the group about the APPA. His presentation included a number of print materials, summarizing the history, mission, educational programs, research initiatives, publications, and recognition programs of the APPA. He then answered questions from the floor.

5)      It was suggested that a resource library of facilities management information should be started by the group. Mr. Glazner donated several APPA publications that he brought with him towards that effort.

 

The meeting adjourned at 3:15pm.
