Facilities Managers Development Group

August 12, 2008

ICTAS- Corporate Research Center

Meeting Opened By: Lylah Shelor

General Membership Meeting:

Business Discussed:

Lylah Shelor opened the meeting and discussed the new key control program that Dave Shuster has developed. It is an Access based program that will assist in key control and management. Lylah has used this program for several months and recommended using the program if you deal with administering keys. Contact Dave Shuster for more information on his program.

Tom Tucker with Facilities Information Systems spoke more about June’s meeting on the University wide space inventory. They have started working with the College of Engineering to begin measuring and verifying the allocated space for that college. Once complete they will move onto the College of Science. Tom also volunteered to be the FMDG representative with the ADA committee.

Dawn Maxey shared updates on the new ICTAS I building. This building will be the first academic/research building on campus that will have the Hokie Passport swipe card readers for entry into the building. Dawn recommend on future buildings to add the cost of these systems on to the building design or a renovations contract, since these systems are going to be eventually mandated. She also suggested planning for an annual maintenance contract. Annual maintenance is not supplied by the Hokie Passport office. It is supplied by an outside vendor, C-Board.

The final topic of the meeting was the upcoming schedule. The final dates and topics for the end of the year are now posted on the FMDG website. Lylah asked for suggestions on next year’s meetings. If you have a topic you would like to present or have presented or a facility you would like to tour, please notify Lylah or Dawn.
