Facilities Managers Development Group
January 14, 2009
ICTAS- Corporate
Meeting Opened By: Dawn Maxey
Guest Speaker: Mike
Coleman, Associate VP for Facilities
Business Discussed:
Mike Coleman, Associate VP
for Facilities spoke with the FMDG group about Virginia Tech’s Energy and
Sustainability policies. Below are the
key points that were discussed by Mr. Coleman during the meeting.
·
Policy 5505 –
Campus Energy and Water Policy was established in September 2006. http://www.policies.vt.edu/5505.pdf
·
The space
temperatures reflected in Policy 5505 are the exact same direction provided by
the State’s for all state facilities.
·
Policy 5505 is
however pending final approval for revisions (enhancements) made through
several months of work by a subcommittee formed under the Energy/Sustainability
Committee last school year. The end product was then reviewed and
approved this school year by the Energy committee. The sub-committee
chair for this task was Dr. Annie Pearce from the Department of Building
Construction.
·
The changes
pending for Policy 5505 reflect the committees focus to encompass
sustainability as a whole for the university as we continually challenge the
university’s environmental footprint.

committee. http://www.facilities.vt.edu/sustainability/energy.asp
·
Facilities
Services absolutely need to know of any research space that has special HVAC
requirements that are essential to the research materials and the
equipment.
·
Facilities
Services would ask all facility managers or department heads with these
critical research needs to identify these rooms, their buildings, and most
importantly what their HVAC environmental parameters are so we can: 1) make sure
the HVAC control system has been set up and programmed properly, 2) make sure
the HVAC equipment has been designed to accommodate the research needs, 3) make
sure our response protocols for these spaces are appropriate.
After Mr. Coleman, Dawn and Lylah
discussed up coming meetings and the FMDG schedule. Please see the FMDG website
